A Day in the Life of a Barkington Pup: Daycare Edition

Ever wonder what your dog actually does all day at The Barkington? (Besides having the absolute time of their life, of course)

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or part of our Barkington family, here’s a look at the playful, structured, and downright adorable routine your pup enjoys at Wilmington’s favorite luxury dog daycare

7:00–9:00 AM – Morning Drop-Off & Tail Wags

From the moment your dog trots through our doors, it’s all smiles, tail wags, and “They’re back!!” excitement from our staff

We greet every pup by name, do a quick health and temperament check, and get them settled in with the right playgroup for their size, personality, and energy level

It’s like their own little pack—except it’s supervised by loving professionals who treat them like family

9:00 AM – Group Play & Structured Fun

Let the games begin! Once everyone’s in, it’s time for group play—the Barkington way

Dogs romp, chase, wrestle (gently!), and zoom with their friends under the watchful eye of our trained daycare pros. We rotate between fun zones and introduce daily enrichment to keep tails wagging and minds stimulated

Here’s what your pup might get up to:

-Social games and confidence-building play

-Fun agility equipment to explore

-Bubbles, balls, tunnels… oh my!

-Personalized attention for our shy or sensitive pups

We keep things positive, safe, and full of joy—because happy dogs are healthy dogs.

12:00 PM – Lunch & Wind-Down Time

All that play calls for a break—and maybe a snack! Around noon, we slow things down for lunch and rest

For our daycare dogs who bring lunch, we serve it just how you prefer. For our boarding pups, it’s their midday meal, followed by cozy crate time or a plush suite break

This calm period helps dogs reset mentally and physically. We dim the lights, play calming music, and offer one-on-one cuddles to any pup who needs extra love

Parents love it because they get a calmer, more relaxed dog at pickup. Pups love it because it’s like getting tucked in at summer camp

2:00 PM – Afternoon Activities & Personalized Attention

With bellies full and batteries recharged, it’s time for the second round of fun. But this time, we shift into engaging activities that challenge and delight your dog’s brain

These may include:

Treat-dispensing puzzles (yep, they work for dogs too!)

Scent games and hide-and-seek

Basic command refreshers through play

Extra cuddle sessions or splash time (weather permitting!)

We also use this time to connect one-on-one with any dogs needing socialization support, senior pups who prefer a slower pace, or those just wanting a bit more TLC

4:00–6:00 PM – Pick-Up & Happy Tails

As the day winds down, your pup is ready to head home—mentally fulfilled, physically exercised, and oh-so-happy.

When you arrive, you’ll be met by a tired, satisfied dog (the best kind!) and a team ready to tell you all about their day. We love sharing who they played with, what made them happiest, and how much they’ve grown with us.
